“ashlemonade” follows the life of an ambitious post college, 20-something quirky writer with a weakness for Netflix bingeing and donuts, trying to find her way as she steps into the real world and make something out of nothing. Through the growing pains and exploration of adulthood, she’ll somehow learn to make “lemonade” out of whatever is thrown her way.

“I think we should stop asking people in their 20s what they ‘want to do’ and start asking them what they don’t want to do,” – Amy Poehler from her memoir, Yes Please.

My name is Ashley or simply ASHLEMONADE, a 24-year-old residing in the state of Michigan. I’ve always heard the cliché saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” yet somehow it has become a life motto to move beyond my fears and doubts I have to show the world who I am. And yes, I enjoy lemonade…mixed with champagne, but that’s not the point.

After graduating college in 2014 with a degree I’m not sure I want to even pursue anymore, living at home, trying to kick off my freelance writing career, I’ve been pummeled with all the damn lemons so you can imagine how disheartening this is. I’m stuck in between a rock and a hard place all while trying to discover myself during the “best time of my life.” Being the introverted person I am with a surreal sense of humor, I tend to keep all that’s colorful about me and my talents to myself, only letting a few people sneak a peek. I’m literally a majestic unicorn but now I want to finally come out of my shell and celebrate what makes me unique.

With social media, people have taken a slice of this digital age pie to showcase their talents and personalities, I want to do the same — but authentically. Growing up in the 1990s with shows like Boy Meets World and Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and inspired by the works of Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling, my dream is to one day write and produce for television shows, even someday creating my own sitcom show.

Until then, I’m trying to make it one day at a time.
